Student & Family Handbook
No one can fully predict the future our students will inherit. At Clinton Hill Middle School, we aim students to meet it by developing the qualities that will matter in any version of that future: curiosity, academic confidence, and the persistence to keep going when the work gets hard.
Middle school is when students begin to discover who they are. Our responsibility is to ensure they do that in a school where they are truly known. Every CHMS student has an advisor and a team of adults who track their growth closely enough to notice when something changes, whether it is a reading level, a friendship, or a week that has gone sideways. When students need more, we identify the support they need and build time into their day to provide it. Support at CHMS is a structure, not a hope.
We also protect the experiences that make middle school worth showing up for: independent reading, advisory, clubs, sports, and traditions shaped by the students who create them. Joy and rigor are not opposites. A joyful school is one where students feel safe asking questions, taking academic risks, and trying things they have not mastered yet.
Our students leave CHMS curious, empowered, academically confident, globally minded, life-ready, and prepared to care for the communities they call home. We lead this school together, and we are glad you are here.
