Faculty & Staff - Brooklyn Prospect Charter School

Windsor Terrace Middle Faculty & Staff

Amos “AJ” Ryan

Interim Principal
University of Valley Forge, B.A.; Stony Brook University, M.A.

As the Interim Principal of Windsor Terrace Middle School, AJ brings over ten years of New York City education experience. As a seasoned educator and clinician, his journey in education has been marked by transformative initiatives and a profound dedication to school transformation, rigorous instruction, social justice, and equity.

AJ’s journey with the Prospect community began four years ago when he joined as the Director of School Culture. In this pivotal role, he dedicated himself to fostering a positive, inclusive school environment that nurtured student success. In 2021, AJ was selected to participate in a two-year principal preparation program as a Principal In Residence. That same year, he also enriched his leadership skills by attending the prestigious Summer Principals Academy at Teachers College, Columbia University. These experiences empowered him to spearhead transformative initiatives that left a lasting impact on the Brooklyn Prospect community. Subsequently, AJ served as Deputy Principal, further honing his understanding of school administration and excellence. Committed to continuous growth and learning, AJ is part of the National Principal Academy Fellowship at RELAY Graduate School of Education. This year-long program equips him with cutting-edge strategies and insights to lead the school community to new heights of excellence.

Beyond the walls of Prospect Schools, AJ is a passionate advocate for underserved communities and college access for all. He founded the male development and empowerment program at The East Flatbush Community Research School, collaborating with the My Brother’s Keeper initiative founded by Former President Barack Obama. AJ has also partnered with NYC district offices and The City University of New York to provide professional development for educators on culturally responsive teaching practices, trauma-informed practices, and supporting young males of color. For the past decade, he has worked with CUNY Research Foundation at Medgar Evers College, empowering young adult learners in the Adult Literacy Program and The Black Male Initiative, a program focused on increasing matriculation, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented students, particularly men of color. AJ’s passion for education has extended to various universities, including New York University, Columbia University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Yeshiva University, where he has taught adjuncts and/or as a field instructor for graduate students.

Outside of education, AJ finds joy in exploring new places through travel with his wife and keeps his energy flowing by pursuing his passion for running. Additionally, AJ’s love for music shines brightly through his involvement in singing with his church worship team and hosting a monthly musical showcase in the heart of NYC. AJ is thrilled to join the WTMS community to embark on an exciting journey.
