Our Mission

Brooklyn Prospect Charter School is a K-12 college preparatory community where excellent teachers prepare a diverse student body to have a positive impact on society and a lifelong passion for learning.

Our Story

In 2007, two Brooklyn fathers and educators hatched a plan to open a new middle school in their neighborhood of Park Slope. They recognized that their community needed more quality school options and sought to open one that would be distinguished by its focus on diversity and academic rigor. Over the course of many shared car rides to Columbia Teachers College in Upper Manhattan, the idea for Brooklyn Prospect Charter School was born.

On September 8, 2009 we opened our doors with 100 sixth grade students. Since then, we’ve grown to four campuses across Brooklyn serving kindergarten through twelfth grade, and we have an amazing team of 260 employees who help our diverse 1,250+ students learn, grow, and succeed every single day.

Together, we’re building a school model that won’t make families choose between world-class academics and a diverse community: today, the fathers’ original vision is alive at our schools. As Co-Founder and Executive Director, Daniel Rubenstein has lead our effort to build schools that are not only diverse in student body and staff, but also wholly inclusive in all aspects of the social and academic experience. We believe that our students learn and grow by being exposed to difference and by being challenged in the classroom. At Brooklyn Prospect, education means collaboration and the start of a lifelong passion for learning.

APPLY TODAY

We believe families shouldn't have to choose between strong academics and a diverse community.

We know that to succeed in the 21st century, high school graduates must understand other cultures and viewpoints, and emerge from the K-12 experience as flexible, critical thinkers. The key tenets of our program are:

Diversity

By thoughtfully serving students and families from all backgrounds — racial, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic — we create learning environments where students can gain a deep understanding of the ways in which alternative perspectives drive innovation and creativity.

World Class Academics

An IB world school, Brooklyn Prospect models its curriculum on the renowned International Baccalaureate Program. This rigorous program raises the level of academic responsibility for our students and serves as an important indicator of their capacity for success in college and beyond.

Excellent Teaching

Our teachers are highly skilled in their content areas and are constantly improving their craft. They are committed to the Brooklyn Prospect mission and excel as enthusiastic collaborators and engaged community members.
