PS + ICS - Brooklyn Prospect Charter School

Prospect Schools & International Charter School

Exciting News: International Charter School of New York (ICS) is joining the Prospect Schools family!

For Parents

Prospect Schools currently serves over 1,600 students K-12 at five schools across Brooklyn. With two elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school in our network, the families of ICS will be able to take advantage of that expanded community. Once the merger is finalized, 5th grade students at ICS will have seats at our Clinton Hill Middle School. They can continue onto Brooklyn Prospect High School if they choose.

For Educators

Prospect Schools is excited to engage all ICS employees with the our mission and vision. Educators will benefit from professional development and collaboration with a larger community of educators. Our combined team, along with the added network expertise and support, will be substantially stronger in resources and systems, which is an undeniable win for our students, teachers and families in both the short and long term.

  • Why are Prospect and ICS pursuing this merger?

Prospect Schools and ICS share a deep commitment to serving a diverse student body with a globally-focused, rigorous education. Our schools have partnered informally for years and we share views on school culture, curriculum and community that will ease our integration. Bringing ICS into the Prospect family will also bring the added expert support of a network team. Together, we will serve more students with better outcomes, strengthen our academic program, and continue to drive public school integration in New York City.
  • Where will ICS be located next year?

All ICS grades will be located at 80 Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn starting in Fall 2021.
  • How will families apply for either (or both) schools for the 2021-22 school year?

Families may apply to ICS grades K-5 by visiting the ICS website . Families can apply to PS schools here.
  • Will the employee and sibling preferences apply for ICS staff and students?

Yes. Employee and sibling lottery preferences will apply for ICS staff and students after June 2021.
  • What middle school can ICS 5th graders attend?

ICS 5th graders can enroll at BPCS’s Clinton Hill Middle School (CHMS). Learn more about CHMS here.
  • Should families anticipate changes to the curriculum?

To provide an equitable education across our campuses, we are looking to align our curriculums. Currently, all elementary schools are using the Achievement First Navigator curriculum. We are moving towards all schools using EL Education’s K-5 English Language Arts Curriculum Modules.
  • What is the timeline for this merger?

Our Merger Application was approved by the SUNY Trustees on February 24th. It now goes to the Board of Regents, where it will be legally approved in 90 days. Since September we have been collaborating to align our schools in ways that feel natural and advantageous to all. ICS will formally join the Prospect family by June 30, 2021, and begin the 2021-22 school year fully integrated into Prospect Schools.
