Educational Vision

What makes Brooklyn Prospect different from other public schools?

At Brooklyn Prospect, we know that to succeed in the 21st century, high school graduates must understand other cultures and viewpoints, and emerge from a K-12 experience as flexible, critical thinkers. We believe that the pathway to such success requires a world-class academic program guided by excellent teachers, and integrated classrooms where students sit side by side classmates who come from different backgrounds. As a leader in using school choice to integrate public schools, Brooklyn Prospect Charter School uses our charter school model to help solve the historic challenge of school integration, that is, eliminate the false choice between the best school and the diverse school.

      World-class program.

Brooklyn Prospect, is an International Baccalaureate World School. This rigorous program raises the level of academic responsibility for our students and serves as an important indicator of our students’ preparedness for success in college and beyond. Our curriculum, designed around the pillars of the International Baccalaureate program (“IB”), inspires creative inquiry and problem solving, innovative critical thinking, personal reflection and collaborative learning beyond the basic standards required by the New York State Board of Regents.

Basic skills plus higher order thinking.

For Brooklyn Prospect students, basic skills in literacy and mathematics is a starting place. Through a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach, we educate the whole child to explore and problem solve creatively, pursue his or her passions, complete independent research, and express him or herself through movement and rigorous debate. One of only a few non-selective International Baccalaureate Diploma programs in New York City, we prepare a diverse set of learners to pursue the gold standard in secondary education.

      Unique Diversity.

When entering a Brooklyn Prospect school, visitors observe the power of diversity in action. We believe that truly diverse schools provide greater opportunities for students to learn from one another. In our inclusive environment, students and families feel connected, empowered and engaged in the school community. Utilizing our small student to teacher ratios and uniquely designed advisory program, each Brooklyn Prospect student knows that he or she is supported in his or her development by a strong relationship with an adult who is especially connected to the student’s experience.  Brooklyn Prospect families recognize that their role does not end when they drop their students off at our doors, and the school recognizes that a strong partnership between student, family and the school best carves a clear pathway for the student’s academic success.
